43lb 9oz Of Australian Awesomeness

…Captured By Christopher Ward When I received an email last week with this fabulous news of an Aussie forty, a few things immediately sprung to mind. Firstly, that a rare and magnificent fish like this couldn’t have been caught by a more deserving carper than Chris. Secondly, it was kind of ironic that while Chris was battling with this leviathan, Ben and I were cacking it with pre-draw nerves at the World Carp Classic in France. Then... [Read More...]

Another Brace Of Oz Twenties

…Yet More Aussie Gold For This Aussie Carper While I was away in France there has been plenty of carp action Down-Under, including this stunning pair of commons captured by my carping Ozzie Jack. Onlookers from Europe and elsewhere may think, ‘oh yeah, a couple of twenties… so what!’ Well, when you take into consideration that there are no dedicated managed carp venues, carp tackle outlets or boilies available in Australia,... [Read More...]

Darenth Social

~ Niblet Drops In On The Thinking Carp Forum J/S/OG Competion ~ Due to some unavoidable family commitments I wasn’t able to compete myself in thinkingCarp Juniors vs Seniors vs Old Gits competion over the weekend of the 14th – 15th August at Darenth’s Long Lake. However, I did make it up on the Sunday for a bit of a social with the guys, some of whom I’d met previously at their Hawkhurst Fisheries competition last month. Waiting,... [Read More...]

Carp Fishing Australia ~ Part 5

…A Few Runs – You’re Not Kidding! Hats off to Tomasz for this absolutely brilliant compillation of runs… kudos to you mate!  This incredible footage of Aussie carping encapsulates the very essence of Downunder dangling.  I love it, and there is no real need for me to crap on any longer.  Simply watch the video and you will understand why I’m so impressed, as I feel this is some of Tom’s best work – awesome... [Read More...]

Les Teillatts Revisited

…Fitzy bags up big on last French trip before heading south Perhaps I should rephrase the title, after all the expression “to go south”, or “went south” has the same meaning as “going down the drain”, or “on the skids” in certain contexts?  In my last article on Peter Fitzsimmons in December last year, after he’d had another very successful trip to the same lake: World Carp Champ Heads South... [Read More...]

Another Not So Common, Common!

…Jeff Maskell with another very unusual common Earlier today, Jeff nailed a twenty that I’m sure he’ll never forget, and without doubt will always be able to instantly recognise should he recapture this rare fish. I’ve seen a few odd lookers in my time… and a few strange fish too! But I’ve never had a common with its pelvic fins completely missing, and clearly absent by some genetic deformity, not an accident of... [Read More...]

A Not So Common… Common!

…I don’t think you’ll see many commons in Australia that look like this fish?  I certainly haven’t! A 20lb 8oz 'lump' of a common... Ozzie Jack nailed this proper looking humpback this morning after a quick overnighter in the rain. This unusual looking 20lb 8oz common took a 18mm fluoro yellow imitation boilie, and 14mm hi-viz pineapple pop-up, fished over thirty odd 18mm and 14mm boilies. Nice one for the “Scuba... [Read More...]

Aussie Fully Scaled

…one of the few instances in carp fishing where size doesn’t matter! This beautiful fully scaled mirror was captured from the Yarra River in Victoria, by my Melbourne based buddy Ozzie Jack.  With an exceptionally rare beast like this weight is not the greatest issue, but for the record it went 14lb 8oz – an Aussie twenty or thirty that looks like this would be simply mind boggling! It was taken on a snowman rig presentation, with... [Read More...]

The Twenties Keep Coming For Jeff

The Tourist Boilie recipe continues to attract more twenties… Yesterday (21st April 2010) Jeff nailed yet another mint twenty from his local lake.  Which I would like to point out is far from easy, in fact this particular water has a reputation for being extremely difficult.  So a carp of any size is a significant result; and twenty is totally awesome. Six years ago when I first heard of this lake from a local, I was told “there are... [Read More...]

Four Twenties In A Session!

This weekends news of four twenties in an overnight session is a first for me… I’ve not heard of a result like this before anywhere in Australia.  I think in the UK particularly, there is a misconception that catching carp here is easy.  If you live in the eastern states then catching small carp (singles and low doubles) is not that challenging.  But to winkle out twenties from amid the plethora of pasties, certainly is a huge challenge.... [Read More...]
