Happy Sacks :-)
Any doubts I’ve ever had about using PVA bags have now completely evaporated with this trip. I’ve used them many times before, but to be honest have not always persisted with them , when perhaps I should’ve. However, I’ve found that treading lightly, with a minimalist approach to baiting (as opposed to hurling in a 100kgs of bait, like we did last weekend! What a couple of Twonks!!) has come up with the goods. At three... [Read More...]
Well Snotted!
The ever elusive twenty is still eluding me, even after some considerable baiting of the swim, and some very long sessions, there have been no more close contenders for the 20lb crown. The fishing, like the weather has been hot and cold, with a tad more emphasis on cold! Where I am fishing the bitterly cold wind spells the ‘kiss of death,’ which has resulted in several blanks – unless eels count that is? Mr Snotty was a surprise... [Read More...]
Better to have lost a lump, than never to have had one on at all?
IS IT??? Well I still feel gutted on so many levels It’s hard to articulate. My forth session (Thursday 24th Sept) began with another big bait up; 20kg of pellets, a bucket of particles soaked in condensed milk and tuna oil, and about 75 boilies scattered around my two markers – luvly! With both rods in position, I sat back with another wet bum and got the kettle on. I waited and waited, five hours passed without a sniff and I was begining to... [Read More...]
Victorian Twenty…Er Almost?
I had my third session yesterday, and despite a leaden looking sky with storms forecast, I felt a lot more confident of what lay ahead for the day. As I walked toward the swim I instinctively felt that something special would turn up. Sounds crazy, but the water had glassed off temporarily and it looked incredibly carpy, after it had looked more like the North Sea the previous day. My gut feelings were confirmed as I could see my left hand marker... [Read More...]
Bankruptcy Or Insanity – Which One Will My Carping Cause First?
As I came out of the stockfeeder’s yesterday and loaded 130kgs of pellets into the back of the hire car, I paused for a moment and scratched my head and asked myself “is this carping caper sending me crazy?” When I think of the thousands of kilometres I’ve travelled this year in search of carp, and the costs involved in their pursuit I cringe! I guess carping it is a bit like having a chronic gambling addiction, when you consider... [Read More...]
Melbourne 3rd Time Lucky ~ Part 2
Continued…It wasn’t until January 2008 that I got the opportunity to return to Melbourne to have another attempt at a twenty. However, this time I was far better prepared with superior equipment and bait, but more importantly I’d been put onto a cracking water by a Carp Forum member, who is now based in Melbourne. I was blown away by his invitation to fish with him in the first place, and further still with all the help and advice... [Read More...]
Melbourne 3rd Time Lucky? ~ Part 1
I’m off to Melbourne in a couple of weeks time for my third attempt at catching a twenty from the Australian state of Victoria, and I thought I’d mention my previous trips there before I go again. I got a taste of what this area had to offer in terms of carp way back in 1997. When I took my wife and two year old daughter on a five month road trip around Australia. I brought along several good fishing guide books for the long journey,... [Read More...]
Morocco 2009 ~ Carp In The Clouds
I got back from fishing on the picturesque Lac Bin El Ouidane in Morocco in mid-April, and in many ways my head is still spinning from the experience. It was an adventure I’d dreamt about doing for about three years, having been inspired by Ronny De Groote’s amazing article about the lake and its environs in a UK carp magazine in 2006. Their were some stunning photos of the scenery, and of course its huge lake dwellers in his article. ... [Read More...]
