Simon Crow’s 51lb Shropshire Common

Firstly, let me start by congratulating Simon for catching this awesome common. It still blows me away fish of this magnitude are being caught now from UK waters on a fairly regular basis. A world away from how things were when I was a boy starting out on my carp quest, some 40 odd years ago! But I guess everything has to move with the times… even carp. Over the years of travelling back and forth from Oz to the UK I’ve been fortunate enough... [Read More...]

Gigantica’s Giant at 72lbs

I’m a huge fan of Danny Fairbrass; his enthusiasm for the sport is undeniably infectious, making him a truly enjoyable character to watch. I’m very happy for him to have nailed the big ‘un from Gigantica, it’s a magnificent looking fish from an equally awesome looking water, well done mate! I dunno what is about Mainline Cell, but I for one am sold on it, having bagged four PB’s on it since I first tried it a year... [Read More...]

Just A Thirty

~ Chill Out Session Quickly Turns To Red Letter Day~ The sole aim of my session this week in Kent was to chill. I’d been so wound up with the anticipation and all exhaustive preparartions for the World Carp Classic that I’d reached meltdown point. I think my blood pressure had found new heights during the event, and I really needed to sit by myself for a while to ponder over the previous week in France. 'Just chillin' I know you... [Read More...]

43lb 9oz Of Australian Awesomeness

…Captured By Christopher Ward When I received an email last week with this fabulous news of an Aussie forty, a few things immediately sprung to mind. Firstly, that a rare and magnificent fish like this couldn’t have been caught by a more deserving carper than Chris. Secondly, it was kind of ironic that while Chris was battling with this leviathan, Ben and I were cacking it with pre-draw nerves at the World Carp Classic in France. Then... [Read More...]

Two Tone Dead

~ Britains Biggest Carp Found Dead ~ Nothing official has been released yet from the Mid Kent Fisheries concerning the death, or actual cause of death of the British record carp, but the UK carp forums and even the BBC have already reported the very sad news. My blog is rapidly becoming a carp obituary, since the inception of Niblet’s Carp Fishing Blog in August 2009 I’ve paid tribute to several iconic fish, such as Benson and Heather.... [Read More...]

Les Teillatts Revisited

…Fitzy bags up big on last French trip before heading south Perhaps I should rephrase the title, after all the expression “to go south”, or “went south” has the same meaning as “going down the drain”, or “on the skids” in certain contexts?  In my last article on Peter Fitzsimmons in December last year, after he’d had another very successful trip to the same lake: World Carp Champ Heads South... [Read More...]

99lb Carp Captured (With Photo)

… Scar Caught At A Staggering 99lb I know this is hardly a newsflash, as there has already been quite a lot posted on the forums this week about Scar coming out again from Luke Moffat’s Dijon lake at a mind-boggling 99lbs! Before I go any further with this, I think it only proper that I quote Luke verbatim from his most recent post on CarpForum: “Just to update everyone on the recent capture of the Scar at 99 lbs… It was caught,... [Read More...]

Heather Found Dead

Another Iconic British Carp Lost I’ve just been told about the sad loss of one Yateley’s originals, ‘Heather the leather’.  The death of any carp is hardly a headline story in Australia, but I don’t subscribe to that particularly negative point of view that exists here.  I am a carp lover, and proud of it!  And it is for that reason I just briefly wish to pay tribute to what a fish like this stands for in the eyes... [Read More...]

Four Twenties In A Session!

This weekends news of four twenties in an overnight session is a first for me… I’ve not heard of a result like this before anywhere in Australia.  I think in the UK particularly, there is a misconception that catching carp here is easy.  If you live in the eastern states then catching small carp (singles and low doubles) is not that challenging.  But to winkle out twenties from amid the plethora of pasties, certainly is a huge challenge.... [Read More...]

Martin Locke = Legend “NOW WITH EXCLUSIVE FOOTAGE”

Martin’s new world record mirror carp video: CLICK HERE TO VIEW News of Solar boss Martin Locke’s new world record carp has even reached our far flung shores!  His monster mirror weighed in at a mind-boggling 94lb and was caught yesterday (07-01-10) from the now equally legendary Rainbow Lake in France.  This big lump is known as the Steve Brigg’s fish, which came out from the lake in May at 90lb, then dropped down in weight to 78lb... [Read More...]
