Well Snotted!

The ever elusive twenty is still eluding me, even after some considerable baiting of the swim, and some very long sessions, there have been no more close contenders for the 20lb crown.  The fishing, like the weather has been hot and cold, with a tad more emphasis on cold!  Where I am fishing the bitterly cold wind spells the ‘kiss of death,’ which has resulted in several blanks – unless eels count that is?  Mr Snotty was a surprise visitor, who’d showed a bit too much interest in my tourist boilie.  I wouldn’t have minded, but I had just tied up a new hooklink and made a lovely new leadcore leader, which he turned into a birdsnest covered liberally with superglue eel snot!  I was not amused!!!

snot up to the eyeballs!

snot up to the eyeballs!

Since his visit on Thursday the 1st of October I’ve had another fourteen doubles out, the biggest going 16lb 12oz. Friday was a lay-day, to get my kit sorted out for the weekends assault on the swim with my mate The Kernel. We went the Full Monty with it, and decided to fill the swim in with bait, which I think no one could argue we succeeded with, having hurled in over 100kg of goodies! The local stock feed supplier loves us, as you can see.  However, in hindsight it was a bit of an overkill given the cold conditions, and although we fished through Saturday, Saturday night, and all day Sunday until 4pm, neither of us could raise a single bleep or even a liner on our five rods. So that is 32hrs x 5 = 160 rod hours for zilch – we were sad panda’s.

Yet, there is always hope if you persevere with it, as yesterday proved. After the weekends bait bombardment, I figured that either the swim was still dead, or they were ‘aving it.’ I rocked up to the swim again about 11am, and within the first hour I’d had three liners, three runs and a fish of just over 14lb on the bank to indicate that it was the latter, and that my hunch that they were ‘aving it‘ was correct. I went on to have fourteen runs, landing tweleve of them, all doubles. It was quite mad a times with double hook-ups, and even a brace at 8pm as I was packing up. Had I fished on through the night I have no doubt that the action would’ve continued, but I was cold and knackered I had to give it away for the time being. But, it was one hell of an action packed session nevertheless, and so different to anything I normally experience back in my carpless Perth ‘sandpit’ home.

Happy hippo hunting :-)

Enjoyed the session mate and new it would come good in the end with all that bait in the swim….If only we could have stayed that Sunday night !!!! I’m sure a 20+ would have graced the landing net for one of us…
